The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), in collaboration with the Government of Kerala, organized a large-scale Beach Cleaning Drive at Bekal Beach, Kasargode Beach on 20th September 2025. The initiative was part of the “Seva Parv” campaign, commemorating International Coastal Clean-up Day (ICCD) 2025.
The programme aimed to raise awareness about marine pollution, coastal conservation, and the urgent need for sustainable environmental practices. The event drew enthusiastic participation from local communities, school children, representatives of local self-governments, government officials, environmental organizations, and educational institutions.
A total of 150 volunteers took part in the clean-up, collecting nearly 952.0 kg of marine litter and waste. The debris primarily consisted of plastic materials and discarded fishing nets, glass and rubber items etc.
Alongside the clean-up, the event also featured public awareness activities and community engagement programmes. The drive concluded with all participants taking the Green Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable living.

| Description | International Coastal Cleanup 2025 was officially inaugurated on 19.09.2025 at Nehru Arts and Science College Padannakad. As a part of this program two local environmentalists who gave major contributions in conservation and protection of coastal belt were honored. Poster making competition was also conducted and prizes and certificates were given to students who secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes. Technical session on 'Coastal Resilience: Balancing Human Activities and Ecosystem Conservation' was given to students. Also the delegates who were honored in the program, shared their valuable experiences. Plantation drive was also conducted as a part of this program in the name of 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' in the college premises. Around 150 students attended the program. On 20.09.2025 beach clean up was conducted at Bekal Beach Kasaragod. Flag off was at 7 am. Oath taking, Permanent sign board installation in the beach, Plantation drive in the name of 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam', signature campaign were conducted as a part of the program. Selfie point was also kept in the beach. 150 participants were there for the beach clean up including nodal officer from MoEF&CC, Pollution Control Board officials and staffs, concerned local body (Pallikkara panchayat) officials and cleaning staffs (Harithakarma sena), Bekal Resort Development Council officials and staffs, District Tourism Promotion Council officials and staffs, Haritha kerala Mission and NCC and NSS volunteers from Nehru Arts and Science College Padannakad. Total 952 kg of non biodegradable wastes were collected as a part of clean up and it was given to M/s Green worms, an authorized agency for collection and recycling of non biodegradable wastes. Shell art was made on the beach side by local artists. The program came to end at 12 noon. | ||
